ISAF medics treat Afghan stabbing victim
ISAF medics from the Farah Forward Surgical Team treated a local Afghan citizen who was injured in Korgy village in the vicinity of Farah City during a stabbing attack Nov. 10.
In order to receive further surgical care from US medics, the victim was transferred from Farah City Hospital to Forward Operating Base Farah, where the FST medics performed life-saving surgery and stabilized the patient, who suffered from more than 15 stab wounds, a slashed throat and a punctured liver and abdomen.
Following hours of surgery, the patient was medically evacuated by a U.S. Air Force aircraft to Camp Dwyer in Helmand Province to undergo further intensive care.

Spanish President visits Spanish troops in Regional Command West
Badghis, Afghanistan (November 07) – The Spanish President, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, visited yesterday the Spanish troops deployed in the Forward Operational Base (FOB) Ruy Gonzalez de Clavijo in Qal-eh-ye now.The president was accompanied by the Ministry of Defence, Mrs. Carmen Chancon, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Trinidad Jimenez.
President Zapatero seized the visit to met with the Badghis Governor, Mr. Delbar Jan Arman, expressing him that the Spanish troops are not here to remain for ever, but their compromise with the Afghan population is solid and they will stay until the Afghan Government guarantees its security.
President Zapatero also met with the Regional Command West Commander Brigadier General Giacomo Bellacicco, and the Spanish Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) Chief, Colonel Martinez Tracasa.
Mr. Zapatero is today in Kabul, where he is meeting with President Karzai and the International Security Assistance Force Commander, General David Petreus, before his departure back to Spain.

ISAF treats young boy
Badghis, Afghanistan (November 02) – A 12 years old boy, named Samir Groule, was brought yesterday to Forward Operating Base (FOB) Rickets for care after sustaining severe injuries from a detonator blast.
The young boy was playing with the detonator when the blast took place. He lost three fingers from his right hand and had to be referred to the ROLE 1 hospital in Bala Murghab. The boy is going to be transferred today back to FOB Rickets were he is attended by his family.

ISAF winteritarion support to Jawand district
Badghis, Afghanistan (October, 27) – The Spanish Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) has implemented a winteritation project in the province of Jawand.
The project consisted of delivering 75 rice sacks (25 kg each), 300 cooking oil cans (3 lts each), 60 blankets, and 15 wood heaters. The beneficiaries are the Jawand district police and some selected district families, which are isolated and needy.
The District Governor, Mr. Jawand Mirza Ali, the Jawand Chief of Police, Mr. Mohammad Yar, and the members of the Provincial Council, Mr.Faizula and Mr. Abdul Kabir, witnessed the delivery.
The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) is performing winteritation projects in order to mitigate its effects on the local population. All projects are coodinated with local authorities, who are responsible for finding the more needy beneficiaries.

ANA and ISAF neutralize 5 IED,s in Western Afghanistan
Badghis, Afghanistan (October, 26) – A total of 5 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), have been disposed today by ISAF forces in partnership with Afghan National Army (ANA), during a reconnaissance operation in western Afghanistan. All IEDS,s were place along the same route from Qal-eh-ye now to Murghab. 4 IED,s consisted of a yellow oil can jug filled with explosive.
The third and fourth IED,s appeared 2 and 4 kms north respectively. The type of explosive of the fifth IED could not be determined. All IED,s were cleared by ANA on the spot, without causing harm to local population.

ISAF forces support Afghan troops during attack against UNAMA
HERAT, Afghanistan (Oct. 23) ¬–¬¬ ISAF forces intervened today with flight assets to support Afghan security forces during an attack against the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan building in Guzara village, South of Herat city.
During the action, ISAF’s Quick Reaction Force was ready to intervene in support of Afghan security forces if requested.
ANA and ANP troops managed the situation on the ground with supervision from coalition mentors.

ISAF INAUGURATES A NEW SCHOOL IN AB SHORA
Herat, Afghanistan (October 19) – Classes have started today in the new school created by the Spanish PRT in the vicinity of Ab Shora (Badghis). The school was inaugurated by the ESP PRT Chief, Captain Campos and the project responsible Mr. Wahid Rahimy. The cost of the project was 39.100 $ which came from the Spanish Minister of Defense Operational Command.
The school consists of 4 classrooms and its furniture, 60 double tables, blackboards, chairs, and toilets.
The Spanish PRT also provided to the vicinity of Ab Shora, with 12 snow deposits of 14 m2 each.

PRT FARAH MEDICS TREAT ANA SOLDIER AFTER IED BLAST.
Herat, Afghanistan (October, 10th) – An Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier was brought to Forward Operating Base (FOB) Farah for treatment after a improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in the northern part of Pusht-e-Rod district, Afghanistan, Oct. 10.
The ANA soldier’s injuries included multiple fragment wounds to the right arm leg, and lacerations to the right shoulder and face.
Currently the ANA solider is undergoing surgery, and will be transported to another hospital for further treatment if necessary.
Two other ANA soldiers were injured in the incident and brought to an aid station in Pusht-e-Rod for treatment and later flown to a more comprehensive medical care unit.

Shindand: ISAF troops neutralize unexploded ordnance recovered by Afghan troops during the election days
Shindand, Afghanistan (September,23) –The Italian IEDD team of Task Force Centre in Shindand neutralized a huge quantity of unexploded ordnance found along the route linking Herat to Farah, in Shindand district, on the elections’ day.
The weapons - consisting of 4 rockets, 2 mines, 1 RPG and a conspicuous number of IED components – had been found by the Afghan last September 18th and were handed over ISAF’s forces to be safely destroyed.
No Afghan civilians or properties were harmed during this operation.
Badghis Deputy Governor and Spanish soldiers deliver supplies to reintegrated insurgents.
Qal-eh ye Now, Afghanistan (Sept 23)- Some supplies have been delivered to a group of 10 former insurgents that joint the Afghan Peace and Reintegration Program (APRP) few days ago. During a short ceremony held yesterday in the head office of the government in Qal-eh ye Now, the capital of the province, the Deputy Provincial Governor, Alhaj Abdol-Ghani Saberi along with the Deputy Commander of the Spanish-led Provincial Reconstruction Team, Lieutenant Colonel Alejandro Escamez, handed over the humanitarian aid.
The group, that used to operate in Jawand district, also in the province of Badghis, was provided with 40 bags of flour of 50 kilogram each, 40 bags of rice weighing 25 kg each, 40 3-liter jugs of oil and 40 blankets.
The APRP is a program owned and led by the Afghan government and has the full support of the international community. Is a comprehensive program that benefits also local communities, by accepting the former fighters back to their families.
A brand new kindergarten inaugurated in Badghis province by the local authorities and ISAF’s PRT.
A brand new kindergarten was inaugurated in Qal-eh ye Now, the capital of Badghis province, after a ceremony attended by Badghis’ Deputy Governor, Alhaj Abdol-Ghani Saberi, along with other governmental and religious representatives, and the Deputy Commander of the Spanish Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Badghis, Lieutenant Coronel Alejandro Escamez.
The building features five classrooms, one teachers-room, a principal´s room, a kitchen, three bathrooms and a playground. All rooms have been completely furnished and the structure has been equipped with two 1000-liters water tanks.
The kindergarten, worth over 60,000 € funded by the Spanish PRT, will be managed by the provincial Social Affairs department and will benefit to 120 children from Qal-eh ye Now and surroundings. Staff will consist of six teachers, including the principal.
After the ceremony, the PRT soldiers delivered school supplies to each child.

Badghis: reconciliation takes place in Qal´eh-ye Now after August’s incidents
Qal´eh-ye Now, Afghanistan (September 05, 2010) – Last Saturday, Badghis Governor, Delbar Jan Arman, called for a Shura in the Hotel Marco Polo in Qal´eh-ye Now, gathering more than 200 elders representing all the population sectors in the province. Ice stand explodes, 5 injured treated by FST
Farah, Afghanistan (September 05, 2010) – Three Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and two children were brought to Forward Operating Base (FOB) Farah for treatment after a improvised explosive device (IED) detonated an ice stand in Bala Baluk, Afghanistan, Sept. 5.
Among the three ANA soldiers, injuries included head traumas, severe burns, and extensive extremity and internal injuries. All were all evacuated to Kandahar Air Field for further treatment.
The two children age eight and twelve sustained shrapnel wounds to the body and were unresponsive due to severe injuries and burns to their faces.
“The kids in this country are innocent bystanders, and it’s a shame that they are continuously taking the brunt of the insurgent attacks,” said U.S. Navy Lieutenant Gareth Evans of San Diego, Calif., physician assistant for Provincial Reconstruction Team Farah.
Currently the children are undergoing surgery, and will be transported to another hospital for further treatment if necessary.

Afghan National Civil Order Police deploys 150 men in Qal-e-Naw, Badghis province
Herat’s Afghan Police authorities reinforced the security framework existing in Qal-e-Naw – Badghis Province’s main city - with 150 men drawn from the Afghan National Civil Order Police (ANCOP) units.
The deployment was coordinated between the Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF Regional Command West. The policemen were transported from Herat to the main city of Badghis province by means of 6 ISAF helicopters.
Security force arrests two suspected insurgents in Farah.

Operation ‘Sob Bakhair’, endstate: uniting Afghanistan through the completion of Highway 1 in Badghis
HERAT, Afghanistan (1 August) – Operation ‘Sob Bakhair’ (good morning, in dari language) has entered a new stage since last April. Its aim is to expand the security bubble in place around Bala Murghab (northern Badghis Province), in order to progressively include an increasing number of villages, which had been abandoned by their inhabitants for fear of the insurgents. YOUNG NAZIFA RETURNS TO ITALY
Recently, young Nazifa Noor Ahmad, the child aged nine and born in Cha Bol Bol, a village around 80 km far from Herat, came back to Italy. She was cured of a severe form of Hodgkin´s disease in “S.Orsola-Malpighi” Hospital in Bologna, and for two years she underwent the treatment monitored by Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team in Herat. His return to Italy was necessary to be submitted to a series of medical examinations according to the protocol that she is following.

Chaghcharan PRT in support of ANDMA for the population of Chahar Sadeh District, Ghwor province, affected by landslide
Today the Lithuanian Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) based in Chaghcharan, Ghwor Province, provided to the Afghan National Disaster Management Agency (ANDMA) 320 litres of cooking oil, 1,500 Kilograms of flour and a power generator for the emergency needs of Raghaskan village people, Chahar Sadeh District, affected by a landslide which occurred yesterday. The delivery happened during a meeting between representatives of the Chaghcharan PRT and ANDMA, in order to share information about the damage due the landslide. According to initial reports, 27 houses were damaged and fortunately there were no victims among the population.

Afghan and ISAF Troops of RC-W find weapons cache in Moqur District, Badghis province
The partnership between Afghan National Security Forces and troops of ISAF Regional Command West led today to the seizure of a huge ammunition cache in Moqur District, Badghis province.
Farah: 9th Mountain troops Regiment has donated sewing machines to the city´s female orphanage
The Italian Task Force South Mountain Troops, based in Farah, delivered yesterday at the city´s female orphanage, eighteen sewing machines, through which small orphans can take courses to learn a profession and build their own future.
