ISAF participates in Badghis Peace Jirga

BADGHIS, Afghanistan (October 30) – The Peace Jirga celebrated yesterday in the Guest House of in Qal-eh-ye-now District of Badghis Province, has reaffirmed the close working relationship between provincial and district authorities, National Directorate of Security (NDS) program, Afghan National Police (ANP), Spanish Provisional Reconstruction Team (PRT) and the Badghis Province Governor (Mr.Delbar Jan Arman), host of the Jirga.

The different parts were represented by: General Gol Nabi (NDS Chief), Mr. Gulchin (Peace Council Representative), Major Abdul Wahab (ANP Chief of Qades), Mr. Nasser Nazari (Provincial Council representative), and some representatives from the Badghis Yough Association. The estimated participation was around 200 local participants.

Speakers emphasized the importance of maintaining opened the route which joins the districts of Qal-eh-ye-now, Qades and Jawand. The route is considered as a key point for development, welfare and security in Badghis province. Mr. Delbar requested to dignitaries and tribes their compromise of keeping this way of communication open.

Other important topics of discussion were the necessity of having the support of GIRoA institutions and also the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to carry out projects and humanitarian aid delivery to the most needy areas of Qades and Jawand districts. The importance of maintaining cohesion in the population regardless origins, ethnics, tribes, etc.

The Badghis Governor also stressed the harmful influence to the Badghis population, specially youth, the cultivation, production, and distribution of drugs.

The establishment of the High Peace Council, as pledged at the Consultative Peace Jirga earlier this year, is a tremendous step forward for Afghanistan.
