RC-West, ABP develops plan for border security and collection of customs duties


HERAT, Afghanistan (Apr. 15) – The Italian “Sassari” brigade - that will conclude its deployment in Regional Command West April 20 with the relief in place with the Italian “Taurinense” brigade – has reserved great attention for development of the security on the Afghan borders.RC-West, under the command of Brig. Gen. Alessandro Veltri, has undertaken numerous initiatives to better understand the main problems of the sector.

ANP, Coalition medics complete Phase I CLS Program

HERAT PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Coalition Medics from the Regional Command West Joint Medical
Operations (JMOC) guided Afghanistan National Police to complete Phase I of a Combat Life Saver (CLS) course here, April 11. Twenty-two ANP leaders from the regional headquarters in Herat learned advanced life-saving techniques which will ultimately enable them to train future ANP CLS students and provide battlefield emergency care in the future.

Afghan, Coalition troops begin new operation in Badghis Province


QAL´EH-YE NOW, Afghanistan (Apr. 13, 2010) – About 2,000 Afghans, Italian, Spanish and U.S. troops, under direction of the Spanish Brigade commander serving as on scene commander, are moving along the Lithium Road in a new operation to secure it for future operations.

Task Force Center promotes new humanitarian initiatives

HERAT, Afghanistan (Apr. 12) - As part of an operation called "Hearts and Minds,” Task Force Center, based on 1st Regiment “Bersaglieri” under the command of Italian Col. Francesco Maria Ceravolo, has launched a series of activities to enhance residents of Shindand District awareness of initiatives underway by Afghan authorities and international security forces.


Task Force South inagurates new orphanage in Farah

HERAT, Afghanistan (Apr. 12) - The Italian Task Force South based 152nd Regiment "Sassari", under the command of Col. Massimo Raccampo, inaugurated a new orphanage in the Farah Province today. Local representatives attended the inauguration ceremony.Soldiers from the “Sassari” Regiment, with the approval of Brig. Gen. Alessandro Veltri, RC-West commander, donated and collected money used to rebuild the orphanage. The Italian charities “Croce Gialla,” “Soroptimis” and “San Giacomo di Sassari” donated additional funds.
The ceremony ended in on a high note when children got into their sports equipment and started a soccer game in their new sports facility.

RC-West, local Badghis elders participate in important Shura

HERAT, Afghanistan (Apr. 10) – Brig. Gen. Alessandro Veltri, the Commander of Regional Command West, took part in an important shura convened today by the governor of Badghis Province, Delbar Armam, to discuss the validity and the opportunity of new future actions to be performed in the area.
New projects will be designed in order to contribute to further extend government authority and influence in the province, through the reconstruction and development. Both goals will be reached through increasing involvement of authorities and local security forces in stabilization of the province.

ISAF Deputy Commander meets with Task Force South and Farah PRT, attends local shura


HERAT, Afghanistan (Apr. 10) - ISAF Deputy Commander, British Lt. Gen. Nick Parker met with Italian Col. Alessandro Raccampo, Task Force South commander, Afghanistan National Army Brig. Gen. Akram Sameh, and members from the Farah Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) for a two-day visit to Farah Province, last April 7th. Gen. Parker was briefed by Ben Kauffeld and Marsha Michel, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Field Program Officers of the PRT, about the PRT’s mission and future operations in the province. In addition, Gen. Parker attended a shura with Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan officials in the Qa Ryeh Sirak village to assess the needs and capabilities of the locals.

RC-West Italian PRT transfers authority

HERAT, Afghanistan (Apr. 10) ¬–¬¬ Brig. Gen. Alessandro Veltri, commander of Regional Command West, presided over a Transfer of Authority ceremony held today at the “Conference Hall” of the governorate of Herat.Col. Claudio Dei, Commander of 131st Tank Regiment and his troops were relieved by Col. Emmanuele Aresu, Commander of the 1st Mountain artillery Regiment. Aresu and his unit took over responsibility for the Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team in Herat.

Afghans complete self-sustained canal project in Farah Province


HERAT, Afghanistan (Apr. 11) - Engineers and civil affairs members from the Farah Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) met with leadership from the Kineske Council to visit a completed canal cleaning project in Kineske, Afghanistan, April 8, 2010, in an effort to improve the agricultural development in Farah Province.
