HERAT, Afghanistan (Apr. 12) - The Italian Task Force South based 152nd Regiment "Sassari", under the command of Col. Massimo Raccampo, inaugurated a new orphanage in the Farah Province today. Local representatives attended the inauguration ceremony.Soldiers from the “Sassari” Regiment, with the approval of Brig. Gen. Alessandro Veltri, RC-West commander, donated and collected money used to rebuild the orphanage. The Italian charities “Croce Gialla,” “Soroptimis” and “San Giacomo di Sassari” donated additional funds.
The ceremony ended in on a high note when children got into their sports equipment and started a soccer game in their new sports facility.
Local firms and laborers completely renovated the building. The new orphanage includes a dormitory with central heating and a room full of games and to watch television. The new facility also has two fully-furnished classrooms, a kitchen and a multi-purpose sports facility.
Rohullah Amin, Governor of the Farah Province, attended the ceremony. He thanked Raccampo and the troops for both the important gesture of solidarity and for the close relationship between local security forces and ISAF troops.
Amin praised their performance of several joint activities that will enhance the security conditions for the economic development throughout the province.
The governor added the climate of confidence, mutual respect that emerged with the local government authorities helped create the conditions for many successful projects in the province. Projects include the construction of wells near Shewan, a village approximately 70 km northeast of Farah.
