The new operation, which was directed by the RC West Commander – Brig. Gen Alessandro Veltri – is being carried out with Afghan and Coalition forces, to support the relieve of the 2nd Kandak regiment during this week.
This is the first step of the Badghis operation announced in the “Big Shura” co-chaired by local Governor and Gen. Veltri held in Qal´eh-ye Now Apr, 10.
This wider deployment of ANSF in the province is focused to improve security and quality of life for the Afghan people. This focus is supported by Coalition Forces and it is closely dependent on the successful implementation of a secure transportation corridor in the province.
Among the main achievements of this operation phase, is the clearing and consolidating of 35 miles of road between Qal´eh-ye Now and Sang-Atesh, and the deactivation of three explosive traps on the roads around Moqur. These traps had been detected by an American patrol, with local collaboration, and deactivated by Spanish specialists.
