JOINT SECRETARIAT FOR PEACE FIRST MEETING IN QAL-EH-YE-NOW

Badghis, Afghanistan (October 20) – The first meeting of the Joint Secretariat for Peace took place in Qal-eh-ye now.
The meeting was chaired by General Muhammad Gharib, representing the Ministry of Interior (MoI). The rest of the participants were: General Muhammad Jandad, representing the Ministry of Defense (MoD), members of the National Security Department, and members of the Spanish Provisional Reconstruction Team (PRT), the Badghis Governor, Mr. Delbar Jan Arman, and different provincial authorities.
The purpose of the meeting was to settle the measures to encourage the reintegration process and the dissolution of the insurgent groups in the region. The Joint Secretariat, in cooperation with ISAF, wants to recover contact with all groups which are prepared to reconcile with the Government. Mr. Delbar Jan Armar stated that the most important is to provide formation and alternative jobs to all those who really want to reintegrate.
The first step for an insurgent who wants to be reintegrated is to be registered in the MoI data base. During the meeting General Muhammad made a demonstration of the registration process, which is effectively functioning all over the country.
This is the first time that the Joint Secretariat for Peace arrange a meeting since its foundation on August 4 in Kabul.
