Ammunition and explosive caches found in RC-W area of responsibility

A joint search operation conducted in partnership between Afghan National Police units and Regional Command West troops, acted on information from local villagers, led last night to the discovery of a heavy ammunitions and booby traps components cache, in Pusht-e Rod District, Farah Province.

The uncovered weapons - consisting of a rifle, tactical vests and 7.62 ammunition, a complete improvised explosive device, 2 battery packs and 2 RPG charges - were recovered early in the morning and will be destroyed in a second time.

In Murghab valley, Badghis Province, an Afghan National Army unit found two unexploded ordnances consisting in a sub ammunition and a 82mm mortar bomb. The unit removed the ammunition and requested ISAF’s assistance to perform the disposal in a safe fashion.

No Afghan civilians or properties were harmed during these operations.

“For the umpteenth time, episodes like these demonstrate the growing trust in the people with the Afghan and coalition troops.” - said General Claudio Berto, ISAF Regional Command West commander – “because they understand that all of our operations are population-centric. Together with our Afghan partners we will continue to provide security and safety to the local population”.

With this in mind, Coalition Forces destroy weapons and explosives caches to prevent accidental harm to non-combatant civilians who may discover the items and to deny the use of them by insurgents to bring harm to Afghan National Security and Coalition Forces or innocent Afghan people.
