Four civilians - injured by two different explosive traps detonated in Badghis province - were rescued by ISAF medics today.
According to initial reports, the first event occurred in the early morning of today, in Bala Morghab District when a local citizen was injured by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast. Immediately he was brought to the Forward Surgical Team in “Todd-Columbus” Base, for emergency care. When the wounded civilian was stabilized, he was transferred with heli-assets to the military hospital in Camp Zafar for further treatments.
The second IED blast occurred in the afternoon near Darreh Ye Bum, 50 km south of Bala Morghab, involved three civilians. Again ISAF forces in Bala Morghab performed the rescue and evacuated by helicopters the injured to the Forward Operating Base for emergency treatments. During the evening one of them, in critical conditions, was transferred to the US Hospital located in Shindand.
These events demonstrate the complete disregard by the insurgents for the lives of Afghan people. Insurgents deliberately target civilians with suicide attacks and IEDs, regardless of the likelihood of killing them.
Eliminating militant IED operations is a key focus of ISAF. The highly indiscriminate nature of IED makes them a threat not only to Afghanistan’s Security Forces and ISAF, but also to innocent Afghan civilians.
