Afghan security forces, in partnership with ISAF’s troops, disposed in the last two days four improvised explosive devices (IED) in the District of Shindand.
The first explosive devise was destroyed during the operation “Caronte” (Charon), early in the morning of Saturday, when ANSF and ISAF troops were escorting a humanitarian convoy from Adraskan to Pharsi. An explosion was heard along the way. An Afghan Army engineers team reached the spot, 40 km east from Shindand, and found a crater, likely due to the premature detonation of an IED that killed the individual that was emplacing it. During a check of the area, another IED was found and removed by Afghan engineers team. Yesterday, during the return trip, the Afghan soldiers found and disposed an other booby trap.
In the same days, an Italian IEDD (Improvised Explosive Devices Disposal) Team intervened upon call by the Afghan National Police to perform a safe disposal of two explosive devices, one found near a military convoy and another one hidden in a dirt road.
“The threat of improvised explosive device is hazardous not only for Afghan and ISAF forces, but also for humanitarian convoys and innocent civilian population. Thanks to the improved competence of our Afghan partners, the IED found in the last two days caused no harm to the Afghan population” said 1st Lieutenant Stefano Zonzin, ISAF IEDD Team Chief in Shindand.
