Lithuanian-led PRT Chaghcharan engineers destroyed today several unexploded ordnances (UXO) collected by the local Disbandment of Illegal Armed Groups (DIAG) committee.
The committee informed PRT about a full storage of UXOs and asked for PRT support for its disposal. In total 2x75mm rockets, 47x85mm rockets and 400 machinegun rounds were handed over to PRT engineers.
The DIAG committee acting in Ghowr province consists of local authorities, Afghan national security force representatives along with various, and religious leaders working closely with International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) soldiers serving in Ghowr province. The committee’s mission is to collect weapons so separate districts remain safe. These districts may apply for international community’s and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s (GIRoA) support given for development projects.
The Lithuanian-led PRT started its mission in 2005 and it is located in Chaghcharan, the capital of Ghowr province. The main mission of the PRT is to support GIRoA expand its influence in the province, to ensure security and to enable a condition for development of the province.
Beside Lithuanians, officers and civilians from Denmark, Japan, Georgia, Romania, Ukraine and USA are working together in PRT Chaghcharan.
