Qal´eh-ye-Now (25 July). A 20-day basic course attended by 40 young Afghan policemen focusing on self-defence, police techniques, weapons, shooting, crowd control and first aid, was officially opened yesterday morning at Qal´eh-ye-Now´s police station.
The course’s goal is to improve professional skills of the non-commissioned officers of the Afghan National Police operating in the province of Badghis and is being attended by staff from the Police stations of Qal´eh-ye-Now, Muqur, Ab Kamari and Qades.
Trainers belong to the Provincial Police Station in Badghis and will be assisted by four officers and non-commissioned-officers belonging to the Spanish Guardia Civil, currently deployed within the Spanish contingent in Afghanistan.

Colonel Bruman – the chief of the personnel branch at the provincial Police Station - delivered the inaugural lecture, encouraging the students “to use the knowledge and experience that both the Afghan and Spanish trainers will pass on”.
Lieutenant Colonel Alejandro Escamez, the deputy Commander of the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Qal´eh-ye-Now, concluded his opening speech by highlighting how “honesty is the essential value of all police officers.”
