Herat: ISAF supports the Blue Mosque and Taraqi Park

Two important projects in favour of Herat’s communities have been initiated thanks to the partnership between the Provincial Institutions and ISAF’s Italian PRT along with USFOR-A.

Herat’s Blue Mosque, built in the XIII century near the Jam Minarets (part of UNESCO’s World Heritage) and considered as one of the most remarkable religious sites in Afghanistan, will benefit of a new sewage system that will sanitize the site’s environment.

The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by the main religious and civil authorities along with a huge number of citizens.

Taraqi Park, Herat’s main green space, will also be refurbished and two soccer fields along with a new irrigation system will be implemented in the next months.

Both projects were agreed by the Provincial Development Council and will see the cooperation of the Italian PRT and USFOR-A, which will co-fund the works totalling over 400,000 USD.
