Hand-grenade injures 4, 1 treated by FST.

A young boy was brought to Forward Operating Base (FOB) Farah for care after sustaining severe injuries from the blast of a hand-grenade thrown in Farah, Afghanistan, Aug. 8.

Three other civilians were injured in the incident and brought to Farah City Hospital for treatment. The young boy was referred to the Forward Surgical Team because of the severity of his injuries.

“It’s extremely sad to see that an innocent child was injured because of an insurgent’s act of violence,” said U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman first class of Welsh, West Virginia.

The young boy’s injuries included various shrapnel wounds and fractured bones in the right arm and both legs.

Currently the boy is undergoing surgery, and will be transported to another hospital for further treatment if necessary.
