Up to 120 projects, benefiting 15,000 families, have been completed in the western province of Ghor, an official said on Sunday.
The projects executed under the National Solidarity Programme (NSP) included the construction of retaining walls, canals, roads, dams and educational centers, said provincial rural rehabilitation and development director, Eng. Taj Muhammad Zalan.
Funded by the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD), the schemes cost 96,000,000 afghanis, with a 10 percent contribution from local people.
Nearly 15,000 residents of Sagher, Dolina, Shahrak, Tiura, Lal-wa-Sarjangle, Charsadda districts and the provincial capital, Chaghcharan would benefit from the projects, which took one year to complete, according to Zalan.
He said they had established 556 new village councils across the province to support their upcoming projects.
Muhammad Haidar, head of the Dehna Sofak village council, said the construction of a 150 metre retaining wall in their village would help protect 100 acres of farmland from the danger of water rising.
Haji Daud, a resident of Charsadda district, said the government had launched a tailoring course for women in their village.
According to MRRD officials, 228 different projects have been launched in the province which would be completed until autumn.
