The United States Ambassador to Spain, Alan Solomont, visited the Spanish troops deployed within the ISAF Regional Command West, both in Badghis and Herat provinces.
Colonel Luis Martinez Trascasa, Commander of the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Badghis province, welcomed the Ambassador in Qal´eh-ye Now´s airfield, from where they moved to the Forward Operating Bases "Bernardo de Galvez" in Shang Atesh and "Ricketts" in Moqur, both of them in Badghis province. There, he was briefed about the operations that, in partnership with Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), are being carried out to improve the security in the area, as well as the quick impact projects that are being developed.
Afterwards, they moved back to Qal´eh-ye Now, where they visited two of the projects that the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID) is developing in the province: the hospital and the Provincial Machinery Park. Ambassador Solomont, along with Colonel Trascasa and representatives of the Spanish and US international cooperation agencies and US Department of State, also visited the base "Ruy González de Clavijo", where he expressed his satisfaction for the achievements in the province.
The delegation eventually flew to "Camp Arena", in Herat, home of the Regional Command West, where he met Brigadier General Claudio Berto - RCW Commander- and the Spanish contingent deployed there.
