Herat (Afghanistan), 6 September 2010. - An Afghan and coalition security
force operation resulted in the detention of two suspected insurgents
in Farah province.
The operation was promptly launched after the IED attack that injured 3 ANA soldiers and 5 civilians (3 of which were children) in Farah yesterday. The combined force cordoned the village of Nowaleh, where reports had indicated the presence of an insurgents’ cell, and arrested two individuals that are possibly involved in the IED attack.
No harm was caused to civilians by the combined force that also found 20 kilograms of opium products and a number of components to make IEDs.

In the previous days the partnership between the Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF had led to the recovery of a motorbike stuffed with 40 kg of homemade explosive.
Colonel Franco Federici, the commander of ISAF RC-W’s Task Force South declared that “the cooperation between Afghan and ISAF forces is very efficient and is leading to succesful operations aimed at disrupting the IED emplacement and production network in Farah province”.
