FORMER PRT COMPOUND HANDED OVER TO QAL’EH-YE NOW LOCAL AUTHORITIES.

Herat, Afghanistan (October, 12th) – The Spanish PRT Commander, Colonel Luis Martinez Trascasa, has return the former PRT Base “General Urrutia” to the Governor the Badghis province, Mr. Delbar Jan Arman.
The formal act has been attended by the Spanish Ambassador in Kabul; Mr. Jose Turpin, while all the official institutions from the Badghis province were also represented.
Mr. Delbar offered his condolences to the Spanish people for the 2 Civil Guards killed in action on the 25th August in the General Urrutia base. He also expressed his satisfaction for the first hand-over – in Badghis - of an ISAF compound that before the arrival of ISAF was used as the provincial guest house.
The donation consists of 20.000 m² distributed in: 8 buildings, 120 shelters (total value 160.000 euros), 1 power generator, 1 refrigerated container and 2 water tanks with a capacity of 54.200 lts each. The PRT also spent 50.000 euros in repairing the damages caused by the 25th August attack. The total amount of the donation is estimated in 620.000 euros.
The Spanish Government has invested an amount of 133 million euros in the Badghis province since they started with the PRT in 2005. The Spanish PRT spent 5 years in the “General Urrutia” base, until they moved on the 13th July to the new base “Ruiz Gonzalez”, in the outskirts of Qal'eh-ye now. The main purpose of the PRT is to contribute to the development and reconstruction of the Badghis province. It counts on the support of the Spanish International Cooperation Agency (AECID) to accomplish long-term projects, while the military part focuses on quick impact projects.
