Schifani visits, inspires troops on Christmas Eve

Herat, Afghanistan (December 24) – The chief of the Italian Senate visited coalition soldiers at Camp Arena, Herat Province, Afghanistan, Dec. 24 to deliver praises and inspire his troops during the Holiday Season.

The honourable Giuseppe Schifani, head of one of the two chambers of parliament, addressed a formation of soldiers.
“Italy and the Italian citizens are proud of what the coalition troops are doing in this environment,” said Schifani.
After having lunch with service members varying in rank from corporal to lieutenant general, Schifani toured Camp Arena’s flight line and individually thanked many soldiers for their hard work and sacrifices so far from home.
The Regional Command-West commander, Italian Brig. Gen. Marcello Bellacicco, said he was equally proud his soldiers high spirits and unwavering dedication to the development of Afghanistan.
On Christmas, people normally spend time with their families,” said Schifani. “But, I’m here today to pass on our sincerest debt of gratitude to all of you from all of Italy. Thank you.”
