Afghan civilians rescued by ISAF Troops after IED explosion in Herat Province

Four Afghan citizens were killed and other three were seriously wounded today by the detonation of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in a river bed in the District of Koshk-E-Kohneh, Herat Province. A Coalition Forces Patrol got to the spot and rescued the injured victims, who were provided first aid.

Due to the serious wounds inflicted by the explosion, the three men were evacuated by ISAF Helicopters to Camp “Arena” to be treated at Regional Command West's field Hospital. Unfortunately one of them succumbed to injuries while being treated by the ISAF’s medics.

IED Incidents constitute a major threat not only to the Afghan Security Forces and ISAF, but even more to innocent Afghan civilians, given their highly indiscriminate nature.

The incident is currently under investigation.
