HERAT, Afghanistan (Mar. 14) – Among the activities carried out by the Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team in support of the Afghan population living in the province of Herat, two new projects have been completed in recent days in the district of Ghoryan, extreme west of the province, bordering Iran.The first one is the inauguration of a modern computer room, equipped with 20 personal computers with printer, scanner and complete LAN network, realized in a high school built some time ago by the Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team.
The second project consists in accomplishment, at a girls school, of a multipurpose sports field, restructu
ring of the electrical system and construction of the checkpoint at the entrance of the school yard.These projects are carried out in collaboration with the Department of Education of the province of Herat, for a value of over 28 thousand euros, made available by the Italian Ministry of Defense. Were also donated mattresses for the accommodation of personnel on duty at the Police Headquarters in the governor Building.The opening ceremony was attended by the Commander of the Provincial Reconstruction Team, Colonel Claudio DEI, the governor of the district of Ghoryan, Mr. Haji Abdul NASSIR, the Deputy Chief of Department of Education in Herat, Mr. Naser FARZAD, many other authorities and local elders, in addition to a large number of young students. The Governor of Ghoryan, Mr. Haji Abdul NASSIR, thanked Colonel DEI and the Italian people "for the usual sensitivity shown in education field, particularly appreciated today because it addressed in favour of pupils of a school on the outskirts of Herat, which , with the guaranted support of ISAF Regional Command West, may aspire, one day, to be the protagonists for the rebirth of the Country".
