HERAT, Afghanistan (Apr. 06) ¬–¬¬ The Regional Command West Provincial Reconstruction Team joined with local representatives yesterday morning to inaugurate a new school in Seyawashan, a village in the Gozara District in the Herat Province.
The area was once known for repeated attacks by insurgents. Now, because of increased security provided by Afghan National Security Forces and International Security Assistance Force troops, residents in the village, district and region enjoy a more stable level of security.
The school covers nearly 800 sq. meters. It contains ten classes and is equipped with all general services including a multi-purpose sports field. The Italian Ministry of Defence provided approximately 90 thousand euro for the construction. 

Many prospective students attended the inauguration ceremony along with Shaoobi Masoomi, the representative of the Governor of Herat, and the head of the Herat Department of Education, Azrat Ghulam Tanha. In addition, Col. Claudio Dei, the commander of Herat’s PRT, was in attendance with the District of Gozara’s Governor, Ziayudeen Sharify, the provincial deputy commander of the Afghan National Police, Col. Delewar Delewarsaha and numerous local authorities and elders.
Sharify thanked Dei, "for the effort and commitment by Italian contingent for all the development and reconstruction throughout the District of Gozara, particularly in the field of education, which we know is of fundamental importance for the students in the district.”
In recent months, there have been numerous projects in the village of Seyawashan, which is 15 kilometres south-east of Herat, to develop its infrastructure. In addition to the construction of the school, the PRT began the restructuring of a second school building, improvements to an important stretch of road – two kilometers were paved and 14 kilometres were done in macadam. The PRT also dug a well for the supply of drinking water and irrigation of land for cultivation and restored several substations along the road for wastewater disposal.
