Herat PRT inaugurates 6th District police headquarters building

HERAT, Afghanistan (Apr. 06) ¬–¬¬ The Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team of Regional Command
West joined with local representatives to inaugurate the new police heaquarters building for Herat’s 6th District.

The two-story building covers approximately 1,000 sq. meters. Local firms and labor, under the direction of the PRT, built the new headquarters building in a little more than five months. The headquarters consists of a solid masonry outer fence, twenty general services offices and a guard shack. The Italian Ministry of Defense provided more than 80 thousand euro for the construction.
RC-West and local officials attended the inauguration ceremony. Brig. Gen. Alessandro Veltri, RC-West commander, Col. Claudio Dei, PRT commander, Ghulam Sarwer Khorsani, the head of the technical services of the governorate of Herat, Shaoobi Masoomi, the Herat Governor’s representative, and Col. Delewar Delewarsaha, provincial deputy commander of the Afghan National Police were among those present for the ceremony.
Khorsani thanked Veltri, "for the constant support of the Italian contingent of ISAF to the cause of safety, the fruit of the optimal level of understanding and cooperation that exists between the provincial government institutions and the Regional Command West.”
Veltri said projects like the new police headquarters are vital for the region and for the country.
“Great progress has been made by the police in terms of autonomous capacity to intervene for the security of the entire province,” Veltri explained. “This is allowing the Regional Command West to address increasing efforts of reconstruction and development in other areas of fundamental importance such as health, education and justice, as they underpin the development of the country and its governance .”
In conjunction with other international forces across the country, RC-West is working to promote excellent working relationships with local security forces and provide them with the necessary support for their increasing level of autonomous intervention in the region.
