HERAT, Afghanistan (Apr. 18) - Yesterday at Forward Operating Base Farah, Col. Massimo Raccampo, outgoing commander of Task Force South-based 152th Infantry Regiment “Sassari,” transferred authority over the Task Force to Col. Franco Federici, commander of the 9th “Apini” Regiment.
Brig. Gen Alessandro Veltri, Regional Command West commander, presided over the ceremony. After the official transfer, Raccampo addressed his troops.
“I am proud for the professionalism and altruism with which, day after day, together with our partners of Afghan security forces, have operated for the safety of the province of Farah and brought the deserved confidence of the people," he said.
Veltri expressed his satisfaction and gratitude, "for the excellent results achieved in six months of intense and exhausting work by women and men of the Task Force South. Your sacrifice made for the sake of this wonderful people, are today imprinted in the colours of the Flag of the 152nd Regiment.”
The ceremony, sober style but deep in meaning, ended with Veltri wishing Federici and the 9th Alpini Regiment success in their upcoming mission.
