HERAT, Afghanistan (Apr. 22) ¬–¬¬ Six 120 mm mortar rounds were shot yesterday at noon by the Italian Task-Force North of RC-W after that FOB Columbus in Bala Murghab – home to Afghan, Italian and US troops - was targeted in the previous 48 hours by 7 rockets launched by hostile elements which caused no damages or casualties. Afghan and US troops detected the launching spot and fire was sharply concentrated on the enemy by the Italian Mountain Troops of the 2nd regiment, who neutralized the threat after the absence of civilians in the area was assessed. The exchange of fire was likely related to operation ‘Come On’ in Badghis province, north of Herat, initiated eleven days ago by Afghan 207 Corps with ISAF support to provide – among other - freedom of movement on the Lithium route and ensure regular transit of supplies and convoys.
