OPENED TWO NEW ITALIAN PROJECTS FOR SECURITY IN HERAT


HERAT, Afghanistan (Mar. 29) As part of development projects in the
field of justice, the Italian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team in the Regional Command West based Brigade "Sassari" completed in recent days, and inaugurated two new projects for the provincial jail in Heart.




The first project, worth approximately 54 thousand euro, as the construction of new multi-purpose facility (with kitchen, toilets and air conditioning system) that can be used as "training room" for courses and professional recovery studies and as “visiting room" to facilitate moments of contact between detainees and their families.
The second project consists in realization of a the new system of video surveillance of the jail, worth about 37 thousand euros made available by the Italian Ministry of Defense, which includes an internal control room equipped with monitors and an system for recording images through nineteen external cameras will improve safety measures and the surveillance of internal and external perimeter of the structure.
At the inauguration ceremony, in addition to the Commander of Regional Command West - Brigadier General Alessandro VELTRI - was attended by the Minister of Justice, Dr. Abidullah GHALIB, Vice President of the Afghan Parliament, Dr Saleh SALJOQI, the regional commander of the prison, General Abdul SADIQ, the deputy governor of Herat province, Asiludim JAMI, the Commander of the Provincial Reconstruction Team, Colonel Claudio DEI and numerous other local judicial and government authorities.
“Today I’m witness of a concrete example of good cooperation between governmental authorities of Herat province and ISAF Regional Command West - said the Minister Abidullah GHALIB. A safe Country is a Country that invests in justice. Through this project, in fact, prisoners will have the opportunity to follow specific courses of professional recovery that will help them one day, to be able to reintegrate themselves into society and ensure better prospects in life.
If all this was possible thanks to ISAF - concluded the Minister Ghalib - is hope and interest of the central government to promote a more responsible and autonomous government action for local institutions in the direction of those reforms, especially those most urgent that look for the good of the population. "
During his speech, General VELTRI stressed the importance of the justice sector, "one of the pillars, together with the health and education, on which the ISAF Regional Command West will continue to invest for growth of the Country. We'll do it always in agreement with the local authorities – said the General VELTRI – in the perspective of a more ambitious project that sees as soon as the legitimate Afghan institutions first protagonists of the future and prosperity of their Nation."
Later, General VELTRI took part in the ceremony of completion of the renovation work of the "Guest House" of the 4th Police District, realized by the Herat Provincial Reconstruction Team with an investment of about 22 thousand euros.
The works concerned the rehabilitation of the water system and interior and exterior walls, installing doors and windows, fitting and testing of electrical installation and general repair of the toilets.
Inauguration of the building was attended by Deputy Commander of provincial Afghan National Police, Colonel Deleware DELEWARSAHA, Commander of the Provincial Reconstruction Team, Colonel Claudio DEI, and some local government leaders.
Colonel DELEWARSAHA thanked General VELTRI “for the consistent support of the Italian contingent of ISAF to the cause of safety, fruit of excellent level of understanding and cooperation between our provincial security forces and the Regional Command West."
General Veltri, underlining the importance of the project, said that "any support will continue to be addressed primarily to the police so they can ensure a greater capacity for autonomous action in crime prevention and control of the territory."
