HERAT, Afghanistan (Mar. 28) It began in the past days a series of e-learning refresher lectures between the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Udine in Italy and the Department of the Ministry of irrigation, agriculture and livestock in the province of Farah.
The seminar was structured on a series of videoconferences and virtual classes on e-learning platform, organized by the Major of the Health and Veterinary Corps of Italian Army Lorenzo TIDU, Veterinary of the Task Force South of the Regional Command West, which is strongly involved in the specific field in favor of populations of the villages in the province of Farah.
Colonel Massimo RACCAMPO, the Commander of Task Force South - based 152th Regiment Infantry of Brigade "Sassari" - welcoming the attendees of the seminar thanked the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Bruno STEFANON, for his cooperation and for the great opportunity offered to Afghan colleagues.
Activity was attended by the chief Department of the Ministry of irrigation, agriculture and livestock in the province of Farah, Mohammad Aslam DARID and veterinary of the province of Farah, Dr. TAMIN, who have shown their unconditional appreciation for the initiative, underlining the importance of the livestock sector in the developing of local economy.
The ovine and caprine population in the area, in fact, amounts to about 800,000 heads, while the bovine reaches 200,000 units, with an impact on the local economy of 85% of GDP and an employment of about 90%, much of which occupied by women.
The refresher course for veterinarians working in rural areas of the province of Farah, has to be considered a new milestone reached by the Regional Command West among the projects of civil-military cooperation in ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) mission entirely designed to a better quality of life for the Afghan people.
