OPENED IN HERAT A NEW POLICE DISTRICT

HERAT, Afghanistan (Mar. 22) – Among the initiatives that the Italian contingent constantly promotes and carries out to consolidate the already excellent cooperation and relationships with local security forces and to provide them the necessary support to increasing their capacity for autonomous action in prevention activities and control of the territory, the Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team of the Regional Command West has today opened the new headquarters of the 3rd police district of the city of Herat.

The building, spread over two floors with a total of 1,000 square meters has been realized thanks to the Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Herat with funds provided by the Italian Ministry of Defense for an amount of about 80 thousand euros.The new district, built in just five months by local companies and labor, is made from a solid brick fence outside, a guard and twenty offices, complete with all the general services, including a mosque.
The opening event was attended by Commander of Regional Command West Brigadier General Alessandro Veltri, vice governor of Herat province, Asiludim JAMI, the provincial deputy commander of Afghan National Police, Colonel Delewar DELEWARSAHA and the Commander of the Provincial Reconstruction Team, Colonel Claudio DEI.
Colonel DELEWARSAHA thanked General VELTRI “for the consistent support of the Italian contingent of ISAF to the cause of security, fruit of the excellent level of understanding and cooperation between the provincial government institutions and the Regional Command West”.
General Veltri, stressing the importance of the project, said that "any form of support should be primarily addressed to the police so they can ensure themselves adequate security in the area, where the Regional Command West could then direct its reconstruction efforts in favor of the fundamental areas of health, education and justice, the basis for development of each country and its governance.
