A NEW GATE FOR HERAT AIRPORT REALIZED BY REGIONAL COMMAND WEST



HERAT, Afghanistan (Mar. 25) – With a simple but significant ceremony, attended by Commander of Regional Command West - Brigadier General Alessandro VELTRI - and the Afghan Border Police Regional Commander, General Noorzai MAHLAM, was inaugurated yesterday the new reinforced gate to the Herat civil airport.

The request, advanced by the General MAHLAM was immediately greeted by General VELTRI who allocated the necessary funds (entirely paid by the Italian command of ISAF for a value of more than 15 thousand euros) for the construction - with local companies and labor - and securing of the entrance of the airport, with increasing frequency used by the Afghan population.


The works concern the installation of 120 “hesko bastion”, the rearrangement of external wire-net fencing, the installation of gates and the renovation of the front entrance building.
General MAHLAM expressed "the gratitude of the 4th Brigade of Afghan Border Police for the immediate and useful intervention of ISAF Regional Command West intended to meet the need for the people’s security in transit to the airport"."Also through public works like this - said the General VELTRI - that the confidence of local population towards GIRoA (Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan), Afghan security forces and ISAF strengthens even more."
The realization of this new project - concluded General VELTRI - marks a further important step towards an even more ambitious project that aims to develop potential of the Herat airport."
