THE COMMANDER OF REGIONAL COMMAND WEST VISITS OMLT TEAMS IN CAMP SAYAR AND TASK FORCE SOUTH IN BALA BOLUK

HERAT, Afghanistan (Mar. 22) The Commander of Regional Command West, Brigadier General Alessandro Veltri - visited Camp Sayar, headquarters of the 2nd Brigade, Afghan National Army, yesterday. There, he met Italian soldiers of OMLT (Operational Mentoring Liaison Team), a unit under the command of Colonel Giorgio Cuzzelli, engaged in placing and assisting in the operation of Afghan army units.

During the visit, Veltri praised, "the excellent results achieved by the Italian trainer teams, in which Afghan security forces not only appreciated their commitment in training, but also - and especially - the great relationship of trust established in daily joint working that is allowing an increasing qualified capacity for Afghan security forces autonomous action in the stabilization of the area.”Subsequently, General Veltri went to the FOB (Forward Operating Base) in Bala Boluk to meet Italian soldiers of Task Force South based 152nd Infantry Regiment Brigade "Sassari" and a unit of 5th Infantry Regiment Pioneer.

 Colonel Massimo Raccampo, commander of the task force, was among his soldiers to welcome General Veltri.
Veltri praised his soldiers for outstanding achievements in the Farah province. "I’m very proud to see the excellent results of your tough and quiet teamwork,” he said. “Your efforts were entirely direct - even in very adverse climatic conditions - to the Afghan people, to which you gived security, assured dignity and kept high the hope for a better future. Afghan people - concluded General Veltri - merit your big sacrifice and are daily grateful to you".
The visit ended with the presentation of the NATO commemorative medal and the national decoration to the assembled troops for their participation in the ISAF mission.
