HERAT, Afghanistan (May 13) – ISAF Regional Command West continues to support the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) of Ghwor, that is leading all the efforts of GO’s and NGO’s operating in the area, to assist the victims of the severe floods that affected the province last week.
According to a report of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), 592 houses were destroyed, 1782 damaged and seeded irrigated lands were extensively damaged in the province.
The Lithuanian Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) of Chaghcharan, donated four tons of food, several dozens of blankets and clothes for both adults and children to the Department of refugees and returnees and Rural rehabilitation department representatives, which will distribute the humanitarian aid to the the most affected communities in the province.
Tomorrow, the Civil-Military cooperation assets of the Regional Command West will deliver 200 blankets, 100 food packages (approximately over 2 tons, containing flour, rice, oil and sugar), 15 tents and 10 boxes of clothes, that will be transferred on the spot by a cargo helicopter.
