Italian Troops of ISAF destroyed today an Improvised Explosive Device placed in a culvert along the Ring Road near Aziz Abad, between Herat and Farah.
The bomb, likely consisting of 50 kgs of homemade explosive, had been discovered yesterday evening by a group of children who were playing nearby the road and who reported its presence to their village’s Elders.
The Police was immediately informed and after having cordoned the spot called the Specialist Team of Task Force Centre based in Shindand and belonging to ISAF Regional Comand West.
Due to the darkness and in order to avoid harm for locals, the disposal was successfully performed early in the morning today, after the local Police Forces had secured the area and set-up a traffic diversion.
Lieutenant Stefano Zonzin, of the Italian Improvised Explosive Devices Disposal Team, explained that “this is an evidence that the trust of Shindand’s population towards the Police is growing, thanks to the increasing professionalism displayed by its Staff, who work in close cooperation with ISAF forces to improve security in the area”.
