Combined Team West leaders approve region objectives

 Leaders from Combined Team West signed OP OMID 1390 at Camp Arena, Herat Province, Afghanistan, February 12, 2011.

OP OMID 1390 sets the course of action for operations and cooperation between the Afghan National Security Forces and Regional Command West in western Afghanistan for approximately 18 months.
Key issues addressed by OP OMID 1390 include security, transition, economic development and freedom of movement for Afghans.
An important aspect of the document, according to RC-W Chief of Staff Spanish Col. Miguel Ibaňez Medrano, is ANSF will lead all operations connected to carrying out OP OMID 1390 objectives.
According to Medrano, OP OMID 1390 will serve as the main reference for all operations in RC-W for the life of the document.
Signees included: Afghan National Army 207th Corps commander Brig. Gen. Dauransha Shazada, RC-W commander Italian Brig. Gen. Marcello Bellacicco, 4th Zone Afghan Border Police commander Maj. Gen. Sher Ali Shahryar, 3rd Brigade Afghan National Civil Order Police commander Brig. Gen. Esa Mohamad Eftakhari, 606th Afghan Uniformed Police Corps commander Brig. Gen. Ziauddin Mahmoodi and National Directorate of Security Maj. Gen. Abdul Saboor Qaneh.
OMID 1390 has been in the planning stages since September, 2010. Ibaňez praised those who contributed to OMID 1390 and said moving forward, the high level of cooperation exhibited during planning should be maintained and built upon.
