Albanian security forces change command in Herat Airport

Herat, Afghanistan (Jan. 25) –Albanian 8th Army Contingent will perform security at Forward Support Base (FSB) Camp Arena, Herat province, western Afghanistan, starting Jan.25.

The 8th Contingent, commanded by Lt. Col. Cepa Tefik, replaces the two previous Albanian units, Black and Blue Berets, commanded respectively by Majors Paulin Paluku and Fatmir Minja.
"It was an honor for me to work in the base of Camp Arena, contributing to security of the airport”, said Cepa during the Transfer of Authority (TOA) ceremony. "It is a few days I'm here but I talked with my men and they told me that there is a strong spirit of cooperation between ISAF forces here."

The 8th Contingent, will ensure unity of command and allow a rational use of resources. “We have performed a reduction of administrative personnel and increase of the operative one, " said Cepa.

The Albanian contingent in Camp Arena works closely with Italian Air Force Fucilieri dell’Aria unit, ensuring airport security, monitoring local workers and inspecting entering convoys.

Regional Command West Commander, Brig. Gen. Marcello Bellacicco, commended his Albanian colleagues.

“It’s an outstanding job the one performed by Albanian contingent; it’s a clear example of Albanian good integration in NATO and ISAF structure.” said Bellaccico.

“Great is their capacity and professionalism, we all appreciated their work and friendship.”
