ANA and ISAF troops of Regional Command West rebuild a bridge destroyed by the Insurgents and dispose unexploded ordnance west of Farah

ANA Forces along with Italian Task Force South of ISAF’s Regional Command West have restored freedom of movement between Farah and Pusht Rod, after insurgent elements had destroyed a bridge and disseminated improvised explosive devices and ordnance.

A new school to be built in Herat Province to remember Maria Grazia Cutuli, the Italian reporter killed in 2001 in Afghanistan

The groundbreaking ceremony for a school named after Maria Grazia Cutuli – the reporter of Corriere della Sera, the Italian leading newspaper, murdered in Afghanistan on 19 November 2001 – took place today in the District of Injil, near Herat.



RC-W HQ hosts the Afghan Civil Service Institute Jirga

The ISAF Regional Command West Headquarters hosted today the Afghanistan Civil Service Institute (ACSI) Jirga. Over sixty delegates from major Afghan Governmental and local authorities, ISAF Senior representatives and International Organizations like UNAMA, USAID and AECID attended the event.


Nearly three hundred Afghan National Civil Order Police will soon join their units following a graduation ceremony at the Regional Training Centre of Herat. The Italian Carabinieri taught police skills as well as
tactical and patrol skills, including counter-IED procedures and anti-riots techniques, during the sixteen-week course
.


Gen. Rodriguez and an Afghan National Army delegation visit Regional Command West’s area of operations

 Liutenent General David Rodriguez, Commander of ISAF Joint Command (IJC) and General Besmallah Khan Mohammadi, Chief of Staff of the Afghan National Army visited today the provinces of Badghis and Ghor, in the area of operations of Regional Command West.

Herat: Italy continues its support to the local health services

The Italian Ministries of Defence and Foreign Affairs are providing a combined and continuous support to both the regional and paediatric hospitals in Herat. Both medical facilities were recently renovated through a partnership between the Italian Agency for Cooperation & Development and the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT), and received yesterday two ultrasound scanners and an incubator respectively.

Afghan Children discover an IED and allow its disposal by Police and ISAF forces based in Shindand



Italian Troops of ISAF destroyed today an Improvised Explosive Device placed in a culvert along the Ring Road near Aziz Abad, between Herat and Farah.

The bomb, likely consisting of 50 kgs of homemade explosive, had been discovered yesterday evening by a group of children who were playing nearby the road and who reported its presence to their village’s Elders.



Afghans provide medical care to refugees, coalition forces support

FARAH, Afghanistan (June 09, 2010) – Ministry of Health officials and coalition forces conducted a Village Medical Outreach Program (VMOP) at Mahajerbad Secondary School, for local village members in Farah, Afghanistan, June 9. The VMOP was an opportunity for Farah health officials to extend their reach by travelling to local villages and providing evaluations and medical care to local Afghans. Coalition forces in attendance were there in a support capacity.

Afghan child aged 7 rescued by ISAF Troops after IED explosion in Badghis Province

 A child aged 7 years was seriously wounded by the detonation of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the District of Moqur, Badghis Province. An ISAF Patrol rescued the victim, who was provided first aid to the nearby Combat Out-Post “Husker”. Due to the serious wounds inflicted by the explosion, the child was evacuated by an ISAF Helicopter to Camp “Arena” to be treated for treatment at Regional Command West's field Hospital.  IED Incidents constitute a major threat not only to the Afghan Security Forces and ISAF, but also to innocent Afghan civilians, given their highly indiscriminate nature. The incident is currently under investigation.

Italian PRT and Milan University promote a Workshop for Women Reporters at the University of Herat

Herat (11 Jun). A one-week workshop focusing on ‘Women and Journalism in Afghanistan’ ended yesterday in Herat, with 15 Women Reporters attending classes taught by lecturers of the University ‘Cattolica’, based in Milan (Italy).  The workshop was locally promoted and supported by ISAF’s Provincial Reconstruction Team of Herat in partnership with the Italian Embassy and the “Fondiaria SAI” foundation. Digital cameras and two computers were donated to the participants that had to perform audio-visual reportages, featuring original aspects of everyday’s life downtown Herat. In a different section of the workshop, the 15 students interviewed prominent women representing the Afghan civil society.

AECID started new round of awareness and educational health program in Abkamri District of Badghis province

Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) started new round of awareness and educational health program in Abkamri District of Badghis province with probable budget of 50 thousand USD. Responsible of Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) says, new round of Health Education started based on continuation of last Health Education programs, this program will continued for one more year and about 80 thousands of Abkamri District residents will be benefited.

Afghan and Coalition Forces conduct operation against a weapons facilitation network.

HEART, Afghanistan (Jun 5,2010)--Today Afghan and Coalition forces conducted a detention operation just south of Rowzeh Bagh, Herat Province. The operation resulted in the detention of seven men and one insurgent killed in action.  This operation was carried out against one of the main insurgent supply networks, distributing weapons and materials used in the construction of roadside bombs. This network has direct links to the Senior Taliban leadership residing outside of Afghanistan.   A significant percentage of weapons which are used by the insurgency in Helmand are derived from this network. The actions of these men have lead to the deaths of many innocent civilians and members of the Afghan forces, killed by the roadside bombs and weapons they have supplied.  his operation will have a significant effect on this network and in turn degrade the insurgencies ability to channel weapons and bombs into Helmand.

General McChristal and Ambassador Sedwill visit the province of Badghis


Herat, 3 June. The Commander of the International Security and Assistance Force and the NATO Senior Civilian Representative visited today the province of Badghis, in the northern sector of Regional Command West’s area of operations.





Double graduation of 241 new policemen and 24 border guards in western Afghanistan

 

HERAT, Afghanistan (June 5) – Starting from yesterday, 265 new members of the Afghan National Security Forces trained in western Afghanistan are joining their operational units after the completion of their training

عمليات نيروهاي انگليسي در مركز شهر هرات


نيروهاي خارجي شامگاه ديروز يك تن را در مركز شهر هرات كشته و نه تن ديگر را با خود برده اند. براساس معلومات مقامات محلي هرات ، اين عمليات شامگاه ديروز  از سوي نيروهاي  انگليسي در منطقه باباجي ناحيه نهم شهر هرات راه اندازي شده بود.
نقيب اروين سخنگوي والي هرات به تلويزيون سبا گفت :  براساس معلومات پوليس ،  يك گروه ده نفري ترورستان كه از ولايت هلمند  به هدف انجام حملات انتحاري و دهشت افگني وارد شهر هرات شده بودند كه  در اين عمليات يكتن شان كشته و نه تن ديگر بازداشت شده اند.
 در عين حال يك مقام ديگر دولتي گفت : نیروهای انگليسي اين گروه دهشت افگن را از هلمند الي شهر هرات تحت تعقيب داشتند . به گفته منبع  فرد كشته شده ملا فيض احمد تبعه پاكستان است كه از سوي قواي انگليسي  هدف شليك قرار گرفته و از بين رفته است ولي نه تن ديگر همراه با چهار صوب واسكت هاي بمب گذاري شده براي حملات انتحاري  و ديگر تجهيزات باز داشت شده اند.
 اين مقام ارشد دولتي گفت : والي نام نهاد طالبان براي هلمند نيز در ميان افراد بازداشت شده شناسائي شده است.
در عين حال باشند گان محل باباجي ميگويند نيروهاي خارجي در جريان اين عمليات بالاي موتر هاي مسافربري مسير بزرگراه هرات اسلام قلعه نيز شليك نموده اند.
هرچند گفته شده است كه در اين جريان سه فرد ملكي نيز زخمي شده اند اما مقامات دولتي تا كنون اين خبر را تائيد نكرده اند.

On May 27, 2010 PRT Chaghcharan engineers destroyed about 500 kg of different kind of ammunition, which was collected by Disbandment of illegal armed groups (DIAG) committee.
DIAG committee informed PRT about full storage of collected explosives and asked PRT for support destroying it. In total 55 mortar shells and rockets and about 1000 machinegun rounds were handed over to PRT engineers for demolition.

Northern Badghis Province: Afghan Soldiers recover a weapons cache thanks to the local populace


Afghan soldiers of 207th Corps stationed in Bala Murghab (northern Badghis province) recovered yesterday a huge ammunition cache thanks to the directions provided by local villagers.
Eleven mortar bombs, 8 heavy artillery ammunition, 1 mine, 100 steel projectiles and several items suitable to the production of improvised explosive devices were found by the Afghan forces supported by ISAF inside an abandoned house in the surroundings of Bala Murghab. “The operation is a remarkable success not only for the quantity and quality of the ordnance recovered”, said Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Shoaybe Khan, commanding of 1st kandak / 1st brigade of 207 ANA Corp, “but also because it was initiated by people of Bala Murghab, who returned to their homes owing to the improved security and are now cooperating with their Army and Police to counter the IED threat in the area”.  The weapons found will be disposed in a safe way by ISAF engineers without harm to local civilians.





Full ANSF Success in Weapons Recovery Operation

 The 2.2 Kandak of the 207th Corps of the Afghan National Army recovered yesterday a huge quantity of ammunition in a cache over the mountains surrounding Bala Boluk, in the province of Farah.  Over 340 ammo of different kind, including 22 120mm-rockets, 18 mortar bombs, several fuses and 5 packs of explosive, were found by Afghan troops following the directions provided by a report of the National Directorate of Security. The ordnance recovered was in very good conditions and would have likely been used to prepare IEDs. In the next days, ANA and ISAF specialist assets will dispose the ammunition found in a safe and controlled way.

Operation ‘Brothers in Arms’: Afghan Mortars shoot for the first time at Shindand Garrison



The first phase of operation ‘Brothers in Arms’ was concluded last night at the artillery range of Shindand Garrison, where the Weapons Coy of the 6th Kandak 207th ANA Corps performed for the first time with their 81mm mortars after a 1-month training cycle provided by ISAF’s Italian Mountain Troops of Task-Force Centre, Regional Command West.
